I also had a couple of great sensitivity readers whose suggestions inspired edits I’m really happy with.Īs for the cover, I was offered two different illustrators, but I’d admired Alex Cabal’s work for so long that I knew I was going with her. Beta readers were really instrumental for this one, because football isn’t really my sport, so having some serious experts to fix what made absolutely no sense was huge. This book has been an on-and-off process for me since 2016, if you can believe it! But I wrote the bulk of it during my maternity leave in 2020, and then needed a five-month extension to finish it, so I’m just so relieved that it’s actually publishing on time.

Hmm, maybe the last one? It’s a lot of fun and joy and sweet revenge and romance and I’m still laughing about how I ended it. Which chapter was your favorite to write and why?.It took me years to get it right, but I got there eventually! I saw a picture in the New York Times of a cheerleader doing a female football player’s hair and I knew I wanted to turn that into a book somehow, specifically a Sapphic romance where the quarterback was the school’s first female football player.
